Description: Ford Motor Company contracted LaSalle to install the foundations and pit for their newest stamping press. The Schuler Press is the world's largest continuous stamping press. The foundations for this press required the removal of the concrete floor at the plant level as well as the concrete floor in the basement. The entire area had to be excavated another 14 ft below the basement floor. A crane then lowered drilling rigs into the excavation to drill caissons another 100 ft into the bedrock. Not only was this one of the most difficult press sites LaSalle has tackled, the project had to be completed in the middle of a fully active stamping plant.
